Mike posted about movies about music, but for the most part, they're all boring and not worth watching (actually I've only seen three of them, and he's right, that Sweet and Lowdown was pretty damn good).
But here are ten more movies way better than Mike's five movies about music.* (*if you're a jazz fan you better go with Mike. That's right, I said GO!)
I've also left out documentaries and concert films, because like Mike, I think that's a separate post. Also, these aren't ranked, even though they are numbered.
1. The Commitments
They played the music themselves!
2. High Fidelity
I mean, of course. Come on.
3. Nashville
I'm not even sure if Nashville is about music at all. But damn it's a good movie.
4. Coal Miner's Daughter
Sissy Spacek sang and she sounds goooood!
5. Hedwig and the Angry Inch
This movie was next level kind of shit.
6. Hustle and Flow
It might be a ghetto fantasy, but I still loved this movie.
7. The Blues Brothers
Can anyone remember what this movie is even about? Oh wait, it's about Dan Aykroyd (you've fallen so far!) and John Belushi figuring out a way to get the MGs, John Lee Hooker, Ray Charles, Aretha Franklin, and others in a movie.
8. Amadeus
Historically inaccurate, but the writing is so good.
9. Leningrad Cowboys Go America
You just have to see it.
10. True Stories
So so so weird.

I can't believe you didn't put O Brother Where Art Thou? on this list.
Or, the lesser known meta-movie version, Oh Brother! Where Art Thou.
Is it weird that I am reading your blog?
My favorite memory of watching Oh Brother! is "hey there - down in front."
Ok, I'm adding my 2 cents - two more movies I'd have include - too:
1. Hair
2. Songcatcher
Iris:
I'm glad you're reading the blog. That what it's for.
I actually don't like the movie O Brother too much, as much as I like the music.
Molly:
Hair is out because it's a musical and i limited it to non-musicals. Although you could argue that Stop Making Sense is kind of a musical.
Songcatcher is good. Again, not my favorite movie but I was really happy to find out how historically accurate it is.
